This guide walks through the process in a better order. If you want the full manufacturing background first, our pillar guide to bulk BJJ gi manufacturing is a good place to start.
Ask your manufacturer for pricing at a few different quantities 25, 50, 100 units, before you set a price for students. Per-unit cost usually drops noticeably as volume goes up, because setup costs for cutting and embroidery get spread across more pieces. Knowing this before you quote a price to students means you’re not guessing at your margin. Our bulk manufacturing page breaks down how order size affects pricing in more detail.
You don’t have to pick one spec for everyone, either; some academies run a lighter build for kids and beginners and a heavier one for the competition squad. Our BJJ gi fabric guide covers the full GSM range, and if you haven’t already, our breakdown of pearl weave vs ripstop is worth a read before you lock in a spec sheet.
JIU JITSU Gear works with gym owners from the first sketch through to a finished batch of team gis spec sheet, digital mockup, sample, then bulk production. We can help you price out different order sizes, recommend a GSM that actually fits your climate and student base, and keep your embroidery clean instead of cluttered. Take a look at our custom BJJ apparel options or our OEM and ODM manufacturing models to see which fits your academy, or just reach out to our team and we’ll walk you through it.
How much does a team gi program cost per unit?
It depends on fabric weight, how much embroidery you’re adding, and how many you order, but pricing improves a lot once you’re ordering in bulk rather than one at a time.
Should the gym pay for team gis, or should students?
Both work. Subsidizing gets you closer to full team adoption since there’s nothing for students to decide. Charging students protects your cash flow and is a lower-risk way to test whether there’s real demand first.
How early should we start ordering?
Ten to twelve weeks before you want them in hand, covering sampling, any revisions, and the bulk production run.
Can one order cover both kids and adults?
Yes, as long as you collect accurate measurements upfront for everyone going into that batch.
What’s a reasonable order size for a first team gi run?
Smaller than you’d think. Most manufacturers, including us, can work with a modest first order so you can gauge demand before committing to a bigger reorder.
Get the identity, the budget, and the fabric decided before you touch a logo file. That order, not the design itself, is what determines whether your team gi program looks sharp and turns a profit, or turns into a batch of mismatched gis nobody’s excited to wear.
